Danbooru is widely regarded as the originator of the booru-style image board format that has since spawned dozens of imitators. Founded around the early 2000s, it hosts millions of images spanning explicit hentai and safe-for-work anime artwork, all organized through an exceptionally detailed tagging system covering characters, artists, series, fetishes, and more. Unlike sister sites such as Gelbooru, Danbooru enforces a strict anime-only policy — no real-person photography, no CGI, no western cartoons (Marvel, Family Guy, etc.).
